Guest Hosts

Jonathan & Angela Scott

Conservationists, Naturalists & Photographers

Jonathan & Angela Scott will be on the following sailings:

The authors and photographers of 30 books, Jonathan and Angela Scott are passionate about nature and conservation. Born in London, Jonathan moved to Kenya in 1977. Angela was born in Alexandria, Egypt, and grew up in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Married in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve in 1992, the couple have enjoyed a prolific partnership, traveling around the world as wildlife and travel photographers and collecting material together for their books.

Each of the couple has won awards for his or her work. In 1987, Jonathan was the overall winner in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition — the most prestigious event of its kind. Angela won the same award in 2002 for an image that was selected from more than 18,000 images submitted from 60 countries. This recognition made Jonathan and Angela the only couple ever to have won this competition as individuals.

The couple live in Nairobi, Kenya, and have a permanent base at Governor’s Camp in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. Their award-winning images have appeared in books and magazines around the world, including National Geographic, Geo, Geographical, BBC Wildlife, Digital Photography, Outdoor Photographer, Outdoor Photography, Traveller, Wanderlust, EOS Magazine, Practical Photographer, Swara, Focus, and Terre Savage.

In addition, Jonathan has presented numerous wildlife television programs for the BBC and Animal Planet. His first experience as a television presenter was with the hugely popular TV series Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom, which he worked for from 1982 to 1984. He and Angela have since traveled the world, presenting stories for TV series that include Wild Things, Big Cat Diary, and more.

When they are not filming or working on their book projects, Jonathan and Angela lead small groups of fellow travelers to destinations worldwide — from Africa all the way to the frozen icescapes of Antarctica (17 expeditions). Other favorite destinations for their safaris and photo workshops include India, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, and the Galapagos Islands.

In 2009, Jonathan and Angela were enrolled in the Canon Ambassadors Programme in recognition of their photography, and in 2010 they became members of the SanDisk Extreme Team. They are Ambassadors for the binocular manufacturers Swarovski Optic (UK).

Jonathan has an honors degree in Zoology from Queen’s University, Belfast, and served for many years on the editorial board of the East African Wildlife Society and the Conservation Board of Friends of Conservation.
